Original Biomedical Implants
Technology

Diamond, engineered as a surface.

UNCD is a thin film of extremely small diamond grains. Applied to a component, it is designed to bring diamond-like surface properties without requiring the entire device to be made from diamond.

Plain language

The coating and the device are not the same claim.

Material characterization tells us what a coating is and how it behaves under defined conditions. Device outcomes depend on geometry, substrate, manufacturing, sterilization, use environment, and a complete validation program.

01Hardness

A diamond-rich surface designed for demanding contact and wear environments.

02Surface finish

Nanometer-scale grain structure can support smooth, consistent interfaces.

03Chemical stability

Diamond chemistry can help resist corrosion in challenging environments.

04Bio-interface

Research indicates bio-inert potential; the finished device requires its own validation.

Coating workflow

A process shaped around the component.

01

Define requirements

02

Prepare substrate

03

Apply UNCD coating

04

Characterize & validate

Substrate

Material composition, thermal budget, finish, and adhesion strategy.

Geometry

Surface access, edges, recesses, tolerances, and masked areas.

Use environment

Mechanical loads, fluids, electrical needs, cleaning, and sterilization.
